{Blogged to Episode 10 of Ozark} Hello friends! I want to tell you how we spent our holiday weekend (and I'm so behind that you are sitting here asking yourself "Uh, what holiday weekend?") Usually, we spend the Labor Day holiday with my husband's family in Chicago but we were just there in July for a wedding and for this LDW, we had something special planned!
So, Sunday started the fun for us- my mom and grandmother came to our house in the morning and my hubby and I left for LA. We haven't been alone without the kids for a night since Hudson was born (that makes a year for anyone who is counting). We headed to the Dream Hotel in Hollywood--there's one in NYC and Miami too- valeted the car, met two of our dear friends, walked to a cute little lunch spot for brunch, hustled back to the car and we headed out to the Pantages to see Hamilton. Friends, I have been excited to see this since it came out but I had this slight distraction (I.e., pregnancy and a baby!) that kept me from NYC. It lived up to every ounce of the hype and then some. I am a theater person- I love plays and musicals. I love the stages and the lights and the seats and costumes and every campy Broadway song. Even with this built in bias, I loved it. All those things I just said I loved? The hubby is lukewarm at best and even HE is crazy about this. I read the biography Lin Manuel Miranda based this off a while ago and I am re-reading it, re - watching John Adams on HBO and listening to the soundtrack every minute of everyday. I keep telling everyone of the profound impact this play made on me and I don't know what it was- maybe it's that these men were fighting for something so huge (the Revolution!), maybe because our Founding Fathers were so forward thinking and smart but mainly, it's Hamilton. His incredible drive and thirst to learn, to write, to do-- it's awesome. I admire these traits in people and he was as admirable as they come. If you have the opportunity to see this show, I could not recommend it more.
After the play, we hung out at the (very hip) hotel, then had dinner at Beauty and Essex. Kiddos, this place was so good. I'm telling you, LA has so many unbelievable restaurants that I want to try and this place blew us all away. So good!! We went back to our (very hip) hotel and people watched all of the gorgeous guys and gals that were everywhere and then Sunday morning, grabbed some breakfast, tea at Alfred's Tea Room in WeHo and homeward bound we headed! We were gone for perhaps 25 hours - and it was enough. We need a quick little overnighter like this every other month or so. It's so fun for me and my hubby to be alone together, the kids enjoy their grandmother and it's a win win! Life feels so full and so demanding that we really must look for those moments to drop a little extraordinary into the ordinary!! Hope there are lots of those moments for you dearest hearts! Thank you for stopping by! Sweetly, Michelle
