{Blogged over World of Dance. JLO. I mean...} Oh my gosh, I've wanted to do a room post for the past 10 months but I kept thinking "His room isn't finished! As soon as I get his rug/sconce/art ordered, then I will". Well, that might never happen, soooo here we go! I've written about this before a bit here, but everything about having a boy was an unknown concept to me. Our house was nothing but girl stuff and I hadn't ever thought about being a boy mom. What do they wear? What do they play with? What are they NAMED?? (naming this poor boy was the biggest struggle for us!) I was excited to decorate his nursery, but I had zero ideas as to a theme. I am not really a person who gets ideas from Pinterest. I like to just sort of ruminate on things, and eventually, ideas will come to me. Its different for me every time but something will be the trigger for a theme and I just build around it-- dinner parties, birthday parties, etc- I just need one little bit of inspiration. I knew I didn't want traditional cars or firetrucks or sports as a nursery theme-- I figure that when he is two or three, we will redo his room to fit whatever cartoon or sports team he is into at that time (and I am positive his Daddy will make sure its Cubs or Blackhawks related and if we have a better team at the time, mama is going to vote for purple and gold!) And I am sort of wallpaper obsessed right now and I knew I wanted to wallpaper his room. At first, I wanted a mural (I actually ordered this one) and I was thinking about doing a vintage map theme (another obsession of mine--I still think this would be the cutest theme!) I love ruffley, silky bedding for nurseries and I was deep into planning with this paper (It's called the Bunny Prince- what's not to love?) when I stumbled upon the most perfect theme for me. I love animals and anything horse/polo/English hunting lodge related. And when I saw this one, I think I might have squealed a little! It was like that moment when you see your wedding dress for the first time, (or a new handbag)-- that "THIS IS THE ONE moment! I'm not sure everyone was initially on board with my fox-wearing-a-jacket-idea *cough husband and mom cough* but the room has come together. I still need a little more art and some baskets for his shoes and a little more organization in his closet and maybe a little toy chest but this list will never end and since I love his room... here we go!
Furniture: I got Hudson's crib, dresser and book case from Restoration Hardware and my goodness! My mom and I went to the store in Santa Monica and if you are local to Southern California, you have to see this store. It is a dream! So so pretty! I had the hardest time choosing but I loved the simple, clean lines of this set. We got the toddler bed attachment so that when he is out of this crib, we can covert it to a toddler bed. Its really so very pretty with the wooden details. I like buying quality pieces that can be used as the kids get older. My daughter has a dresser and a bookcase that were in her nursery and you just get more out of your investment.
Bedding: All of the bedding I purchased is from RH as well. I wanted to order custom bedding because I like to be able to play around with the details, but I really couldn't find any place that had fabric that I liked. At RH, I found this pretty velvet with silk ruffles and a silk bed skirt (they are out of my color but this soft green is the closest to mine, which is sort of a taupey shade). I have to say that the bumper did not hold up as well as I'd hoped. Hudson slept in a bassinet in our room until he was maybe 5 months or more and after around 2 months of use, the bumper got a little saggy. I think this is kind of the shabby chic look but I like the bumpers to stand up a bit- so my mom added more stuffing to them (yay for crafty moms!) and I love it!
More picture to come in part 2! Thank you for stopping by! Sweetly, Michelle
